Respect, Faith, and Love by Saintbirdy Respect, Faith, and Love by Saintbirdy
You can believe whatever you want. Just don't condemn me or anyone else for disagreeing no matter what. Maybe focus on the good of each faith instead of the differences.

This is my stamp, so I used the Jesus fish as a base. You can make your own to customize what you believe!

I've been a little bit everything faith-wise though out my years of soul searching. I settled on Christianity (no denomination). I've learned that preaching to someone seldom converts. People need to do their own searching, their own praying, or lack their of. If I wanna advertise at all, I should just live it and be a good person. (Though I'm human, so this seldom happens, lol).
I'm that person with a Jesus fish on their car that flips you off. Again I'm human, why the high standards?

If you're happy, and have good will for others, that's fine. Do I always agree with you? No. Do you believe in my God? Not always. Does God love you? Yes. Do I love you? Yes.

Christians get a bad wrap. Not all of us are hateful, bible thumpers. If we really followed the bible better, we'd respect and love you no matter what. We're taught to love the sinner hate the sin. Give charitably with a happy heart. Love our brother/sister. God is love. Jesus loves you.

No one is perfect. People need to stop acting like they are, stop assuming people are.

I recommend learning as much as you can from everything, then draw your own conclusions.

(To be honest, I have a Jesus Fish on my car eating a Darwin Fish... I'm sorry. That thing makes me laugh.)

I had a thought when I read "preaching to someone seldom converts" and what I've learned is that, yes we are to share our faith, but it's not our job to convert. That is God's place to do so.

I'm a Christian too, and I've heard a lot of times that God didn't need us, he wanted us, but it took my complex way of thinking for me to for real understand that.

I remember one time when I was invited to a party that took place at a church a friend of mine goes to. They had the whole shebang. Ice cream, games, loud music, and the whole thing would last about four hours.

We arrived there, and the first thirty minutes were great. They had Skillet playing and a bunch of arcade games there. But then, we were told that a local band was going to play, so we all sat down.

They wheeled the games out, and instead of rock or anything good, we listened to this christian band sing songs about how we're all sinners unless we devote every second of our life to worshiping God, and how we're weak and pathetic and the only reason we're able to get out of bed every morning is because God gives us permission to. This was then followed by the pastor doing a THREE HOUR LONG conversion practice, where he successfully scared several kids there shitless with the idea that horrible things will happen to them unless they pick up a bible and start praying RIGHT NOW for the rest of their lives.

I hate religion. It's all the same. "You don't believe in what I say? DIE SINNER!" "Our God loves everyone! Except gays. And people of other religions. And people who don't worship him every day of their lives." "How DARE you question the many contradictions that our bible has?! You're a sinner who's a horrible person and you're going to Hell!"

It doesn't matter how nice a person is. It doesn't matter if they spend years volunteering at hospitals, or give to those in need, or are not greedy, or genuinely want to make the world a better place. It doesn't matter how nice they are, how much they give, or what they do to make the world a more wonderful place to live in than it was before they were born. If they don't believe in God, how nice or kind they were is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that they weren't Christian.

Why the Hell would I want to believe in a God with such skewed priorities? This is why I'm an Atheist. I'd rather be a nice Atheist than a mean Christian.

*squints at date* whoops, i'm late to the party. aaaaanyways...

actual christianity is not like that. there's a church i've recently started going to regularly that focuses not on human sins and how we'll all be going to hell, but on how humans were originally made as all loving and all good in god's image, how science doesn't contradict god but reveals how much detail and love he put into the world, and how we are all flawed in some way and that is okay, for even the prophets of god were imperfect and sinned in their own ways but were still good. heck, i've talked to the church leader about the bible and he has stated that while the bible was written to bring to light certain christian values, it was written at a time when certain details (ie, homosexuality and women wearing pants) were intolerable and that modern day folks shouldn't take it to reflect modern views since the laws of the old world aren't into practice anymore and that the law of civilization doesn't necessarily equate to the will of god.

anyways, what i'm trying to get at is that true christianity is basically living a virtuous and fulfilling life, supporting the little guy in terms of need, holding a hand out to those weaker than you, loving others as you love yourself, basically being together in love and peace, as love is the light that god gave us and love is how god manifests in our lives.

i thought i'd just say this to clear up some misconceptions that people seem to have with religion, mainly that we're all crazy angry people that seem to think that anyone who doesn't believe in god is going to hell (but honestly, that church sounds awful and hateful and i'm so sorry you had to deal with that.)

Mm! Another person I can actually respect!

I'll have to admit, while I might not actually be a Christian, I do like some of their values and try t apply them to my life. Like "Thou shalt not steal." or "Thou shalt not disrespect thine elders."

THAT's the kind of stuff I can get behind. I love the Christian morals, but I have some issues with the (intolerant) Christians.

not all churches are like that. thats was pretty wrong , im christian, and i cant believe of what they said just plain wrong, my church for example
has homosexual members, yet they dont bash them, we know that the only one who can judge is god not us, come one, we are just instructors, and if the person doesnt want to believe okay, its fine, love the person
and not all christians are mean :)

im sorry you had to go through that experience. from heart, im really sorry, christians arent supposed to be like that.

PLZ Wicket No 03 sorry for the horrible experience.

Perhaps the fact is, that people despise it when you force your beliefs on people, that's why Christians get a lot of hate nowadays.

My first boyfriend's name was Adam and he helped bring me back to God.
It can be a tough situation. Never go into a relationship with the expectation to change a person, or have them change solely because they love you. It has to be a change they desire from within.
That's not to say they won't change or learn.
Show him God's love through acts of love taught by God. Never force. See things from his point of view and share your point of view. No one was there in the beginning of existence, nothing coming from nothing is just as much of a paradox of a creator creating everything. This helps take the arrogance out of people.
So I shall pray for you guys and I hope for the best! Everything happens for a reason, and if he doesn't see the light now, doesn't mean something won't happen in his life that will allow him to see.

Some days I run across people on this very website using God as a reason to say completely horrible things about people who aren't hurting anyone. And it really gets me down.

But then I see something like this, and it makes me feel better.

Most of my extended family are Catholic, and they are genuinely good people with great personalities who are pretty much OK with the practices/lifestyles of other people. I've heard a comment here or there that has irked me, but in general, they are good people, and when I think of the "right" way to practice religion, I think of my family. They use it to be happy, to have something to believe in, to have comfort. THAT'S how I think religion should be practiced.

When people use it to judge others, that's when it becomes a problem. Unfortunately, those who are loudest attract the most attention, which is why there's such a huge fight between "hardcore religious types" and "hardcore atheists". It's sad that atheists automatically assume horrible things about religious types, and it's ALSO sad that the religious types assume horrible things about atheists, which happens, too.

But most people are willing to bend a bit, which is great. xD It makes for better interactions. FRIENDLY AND FUN interactions. Which are the best kind. x3

I guess the best way to describe me is an atheist, but I have a few supernatural beliefs, and I pray/make offerings in a Shinto style. I can't say that I really believe in any of the gods of Shinto, or any other religion, but I kind of believe in spirits and energies, despite what people like my boyfriend say. x3 I'm told that makes me agnostic...?

Also, in the same way that you laugh at your Jesus-eating-Darwin-fish...I have to admit that I spend BUTTLOADS OF TIME laughing at the "Fuck NO Religious Fanart" Tumblr blog: [link]

...xD

you know... ive been raised an athiest and ive never read the bible, gone to church or realy thought about these kinds of things.

however, i think that alot of athiests put too much emphasis on the bible and not on god himself. sure god could make anything bad dissapear with the wave of his hand, but christianity is more about gos setting a standard and you try to live up to that standard as much as you can. then for that you're rewarded with happiness in a second life.

im not saying i beleve in that life style, just that some athiests seem to use the bible as a referance than of the morality of christianity itself.

on an related note, i have never seen an athiest bash muslims or hindus or jews. almost all of it is on christanity. I dont get it

They get so bent out of shape. Most people assume atheists hate god and all religions. When really it's just that we don't care. Unless its someone who left their faith, those people are the bible bashers more likely than not.

Frankly, I don't understand why when people bash on religion, they focus solely on Christianity. My thought is that they bash it only because it's a popular religion and have to hate something. I don't see anyone bashing Jainism or the like but "those damned bigoted idiotic Christians".

Now I don't want anyone to bash any religion, but it's just an observation of mine.

Yes, me neither.
It's really sad, especially when this scenario is happening right here, on DA.
Sometimes, I feel very pissed off, and start replying to those bashers. And they give me reasons which aren't reasons at all as to why they're bashing us. Like: "Oh, that's because I don't believe in God." Who cares if you believe in God or not? Just stop bashing those who do! :x
Anyway.
This observation makes a lot of sense, because I have evidence to back it up. :D

I know religion has *inspired* people to do a lot of crappy things, but be it any faith or lack their of, PEOPLE are the ones who do crappy things. People manipulate and misinterpret things to their own selfish gain.

I know Christianity has given people purpose. It has lifted people from a dark place.
For me, this faith has prevented me from self mutilation and suicide, and since I'm not dead, I try to give luff to humans (though it's tough sometimes, because damn, they crazy) and living creatures whenever possible.

Instead of ragging on a belief system, maybe rag on the *individuals* throwing it around like weapon instead of a tool to help those in need.

Religion has inspired some people to do terrible things, true. But then again, pulling out the Crusades out of your ass as a reason to hate Christians and Christianity is pretty stupid. The Crusades went against most (if not all) of our religion's beliefs. And the past was much different than modern times. You don't see things like the Crusades or Spanish Inquisition any more. It's time to move on from the mistakes of history.

Exactly. There are some people who will abuse our beliefs. Those are not good people. And people need to get over the stereotypes. Not all Christians just think about God 24/7 or do not believe in science. I believe that the reason everything works in the universe is because God somehow makes it work (not a scientific reason, ha ha). And (sorry for the long ramble in advance) people would stop trying to disprove God with conventional modern and extremely flawed science. We're talking about a divine deity. I'm pretty sure a god is beyond modern science. It's obsolete trying to prove and disprove the existence of something with science (something we have so little knowledge in, anyways).
