Swadhisthana is associated with the unconscious, and with emotion. It is closely related to Muladhara in that Swadhisthana is where the different samskaras (potential karmas), lie dormant, and Muladhara is where these samskaras find expression. Swadhisthana contains unconscious desires, especially sexual desire, and it is said[by whom?] that to raise the kundalini shakti (energy of consciousness) above Swadhisthana is extremely difficult for this reason. Many saints have had to face the temptations associated with this chakra.

I wish to share some things I've learned about svadhisthana during my journey.
This chakra indeed has a deep reputation for being all about sexual energy, which I find unfortunate. Such is only a fraction of its true nature. I've discovered that it's from here that we generate active emotion. Have you ever looked at one of Thomas Kincade's house paintings and lost yourself in feeling like you could live there? Or the sense of adventure from looking at Tolkien maps or other fantasy landscapes, wanting to see what's beyond the borders. Or the rage toward Professor Snape every time Harry faced a brand new injustice that made us want to punch the pages in the book. All of these energetic emotions that we can feel physically...I believe this is the actual nature of Svadhisthana. It's that mysterious sensation/emotion that stem from creative thought. It's really hard to pinpoint such energy or what it is. I think this is what's unique and special about this chakra. I believe that we can love and cultivate a flourishing Svadhisthana without even touching a sexual aspect if we try.
